Photography in Tauranga
The Tauranga Photographic Society has run since 1956. Its first meeting, on 7 February that year, drew 40 people. Club nights are held at 177 Elizabeth Street on the first and third Thursdays of the month, and visitors are welcome. Programmes have included guest workshops on new techniques and group night shoots in the city, such as one along Wharf Street.
For landscape and low-light practice, McLaren Falls Park is ten minutes from the city, with Lake McLaren and a waterfall track where glow-worms can be seen. Toi Tauranga Art Gallery on Willow Street runs changing exhibitions for students who want to study how work is curated and shown.
