Animal welfare in practice in Tauranga
The SPCA's Tauranga centre at 43 Alach Street, Gate Pa, takes in just over 2,000 animals a year, and the SPCA counts it among its busiest centres. Working at that volume gives students a clear picture of how a welfare organisation runs day to day.
The centre advertises volunteer positions and runs a foster programme, with enquiries going to its Tauranga team. Wildlife welfare adds another side to the work. The Western Bay Wildlife Trust runs rescue services for seabirds and shorebirds across the western Bay of Plenty.
