Photography in and around Palmerston North
The Manawatū Camera Club is the city's main group for amateur photographers. It holds a monthly competition night on the second Monday, with digital and print entries and interclub competitions, and meets again in the fourth week of each month for outings, activities and discussions. Beginners and experienced photographers are both invited to come along.
Subjects within a short drive are varied. Victoria Esplanade combines formal rose beds, camellias and native bush in 26 hectares. Te Āpiti Manawatū Gorge, about 12 km away, has five track viewpoints over the river, road, railway and nearby wind farms. At Foxton Beach, the Manawatū Estuary is one of DOC's recommended birdwatching spots, where shorebirds gather closest at high tide and roosting birds should not be approached.
