Landscape ideas from Tauranga gardens

Te Puna Quarry Park shows how a disused quarry can be turned into a landscape. Volunteers have added walking tracks, themed planting areas and more than 50 outdoor sculptures. The park is free and open every day, so students can return in different seasons to see how its planting design changes. The Elms | Te Papa Tauranga is a contrast: a garden laid out between 1834 and 1844, where the design work is about conserving historic layout and planting.

Each November, the Bay of Plenty Garden & Art Festival opens more than 60 gardens across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty, with art on show in many of them. The 2026 festival runs from 19 to 22 November, giving a chance to compare many residential garden designs over a few days.
