Observing primates in Christchurch

Orana Wildlife Park, the country's only open-range zoo on 80 hectares in Harewood, is home to the only gorillas in Aotearoa New Zealand, alongside siamangs and lemurs.

Having apes and lemurs on one site lets students compare social behaviour, movement and feeding across very different primates in a single visit. Orana runs daily animal presentations and offers a lemur encounter for visitors aged eight and over, which gives a closer view of how keepers handle and feed the animals.
