Sheep and cattle farming in Auckland
Ambury Regional Park in Māngere Bridge is a working sheep and dairy farm inside the city, with its own woolshed and milking shed, on the edge of the Manukau Harbour. An educational farm was set up on the site in 1977, before it opened as a regional park in 1987. Schools have used it for years to show how a working farm operates.
Each Easter, the Easter Show at the Auckland Showgrounds adds a farm calendar event. For 2026, the A&P Association brought farm animals back to Hall 6 under the name Farmworld, and the programme included four days of sheep dog trials. Watching working dogs move stock is a practical way to see stock handling skills in action.

Is there a working farm in Auckland I can visit?
Yes. Ambury Regional Park in Māngere Bridge is a working sheep and dairy farm with a woolshed and milking shed, on the coast of the Manukau Harbour. It also keeps goats, pigs, poultry and other animals.
Are there sheep dog trials in Auckland?
The 2026 Easter Show at the Auckland Showgrounds, held 3-6 April, included four days of sheep dog trials. The A&P Association also brought farm animals back to Hall 6 with Farmworld.
