Massey University's Dairy Farm 4 sits beside the Manawatū campus on Tennent Drive (SH57), about 5 km from the city. It covers 250 hectares, 221 of them effective, and milked a peak herd of 573 Friesian-cross-Jersey cows in 2024/25 at 2.6 cows per hectare. The farm exists to research large-scale dairying and to teach students, and Massey handles visit requests through its farms team.
Each March, Central Districts Field Days at Manfeild Park in Feilding draws more than 27,000 people over three days to connect with and learn about New Zealand's primary industries. Around the same city, AgResearch, now part of the Bioeconomy Science Institute, keeps one of its two national centres in Palmerston North, with a mission focused on a strong, sustainable pastoral sector.
