Landscaping examples in Napier

Several of Napier's public spaces began as engineering or reuse projects, which makes them useful to study. The Marine Parade gardens grew out of the need to stop the sea washing over the beach and into the town, and a permanent sea wall was built in 1887–88. After the 1931 earthquake, a small part of the parade was reclaimed using rubble from the ruined inner city.

The Centennial Gardens, where Coote Road meets Marine Parade at the foot of Bluff Hill, were built in 1974 on a former quarry worked by prison labour. Clive Square, which appears in the original 1854 town plan, was designed as a village green and holds a Moreton Bay fig that the council describes as probably the largest tree in Napier.

Where can I see landscaping on reclaimed or reused land in Napier?
