Virtual assistant

These days, more and more employers are open to the idea of remote working. They’ve realised they don’t need everyone on-site at an office in order for operations to run smoothly.

That’s why it’s become easier to find virtual assistant work from home jobs. You can perform tasks such as business admin, data entry or bookkeeping for a number of different clients.

Grant writer

A grant writer is responsible for writing grant applications for non-profit organisations seeking funding. It’s a very skilled role that requires good writing ability as well as in-depth knowledge of what makes a grant application successful. As a result, it’s also one of the best-paid jobs on this list.

Beauty therapist

As a home-based beauty therapist, you’ll have the skills and the kit so that clients can come to you for their treatments. You might offer manicures, facials, spray tans or makeup sessions. And you can always study online to improve the range of treatments you are able to offer.

Online tutor

Do you have teaching experience? You can teach lessons, offer one-to-one tutoring and provide exam prep sessions for students – either over the internet or with students visiting you at home.

Search the internet for tutoring platforms you can sign up to. Or go it alone and market yourself locally. Self-employed tutors earn an average of $34 per hour.

Life coach

A life coach supports their clients to make changes in their life, offering regular coaching sessions in which goals are set and worked towards. Once you have the right life coaching qualifications, there’s no reason you can’t do this job from home.

Baker or caterer

If you have a passion for the culinary arts, why not set up as a baker or caterer? Working out of your own home kitchen, you can provide baked goods for a local café. Or sandwich, salad and soup options for nearby offices.

Speak more than one language? You could find work as a freelance translator, working to translate texts from the comfort of your own home.

Freelance graphic designer

Graphic designers create visuals for their clients, developing logos, ads, promotional materials and even website designs.

You can study to become a graphic designer, however, keep in mind that a comprehensive portfolio sometimes speaks louder than any formal qualifications. With a flair for design and the right design tech at home, you can build your client base and earn a comfortable salary.

Social media manager

Maintaining a social media presence is really important to businesses. But not every small business has the manpower to keep their social media feed regularly updated with new and engaging content.

That’s where a social media manager comes in. From your own laptop, you can create and upload content that helps a business check in with existing followers and find new ones too.

Bed & breakfast manager

Do you have space to spare at home? If you enjoy hosting and have a flair for hospitality, you could set up as a bed & breakfast or as an Airbnb host.

With a comfortable room, some tasty food options and the right local licenses, you can welcome people travelling for business and those holidaying in your town.

A nutritionist advises clients on their diet – analysing the food they currently eat and devising alternative diets to help clients reach particular health or weight goals. To do this job from home, all you need is a consultation room and the right nutrition software.

Software developer

If you know a computer coding language – such as Java, Python or C# – you can earn a much higher than average salary building apps, websites and software for clients. Software developers are in high demand so, with the right tech and client skills, you’ll never be short of work.

Pet groomer

Do you love being around animals? Are you looking for jobs you can do from home? How about training to become a pet groomer? It might not be up there with the highest paying jobs on this list but it’s certainly at the front of the pack when it comes to job satisfaction.

eCommerce store owner

It’s never been easier to set up your own eCommerce store. Platforms like eBay, Etsy and Shopify have made creating your own website and uploading your products an incredibly simple process.
